Georgia is a beautiful nation on the Black Sea's eastern shore, at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. Georgia has borders with Turkey, Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, and it has a rich cultural and historical past that dates back to antiquity. Furthermore, Georgia is well-known around the world for its distinct and tasty cuisine, which is one of the many things that draw travelers to the country.  Georgia has one of the world's oldest wine-making traditions. Kakheti is an east Georgian province that is popular among tourists for sampling local wine, Churchkhela, Pelamushi, and other meals or desserts. Georgia's climate and geography are ideal for supporting various touristic amenities such as skiing resorts, beach resorts, hiking, trekking, and wildlife observation at national parks due to its unique positioning between two large bodies of water and the presence of Alpine peaks, temperate rainforest & wetlands, and a semi-arid desert.  Tourists have the opportunity to explore historic sites and monuments located around the country, some of which are classified by UNESCO.

Recommended destinations in Georgia

Georgia has plenty of places that are worth visiting by people of all ages, travel motives and backgrounds, however, the most recommended, and frequently visited  destinations in Georgia include the regions of Tbilisi,  Kakheti, Adjara, and Mtskheta-Mtianeti.

 

Tbilisi, the country’s capital, is home to the Bronze Age settlements, churches from the middle ages, historically significant fortresses, stained-glass Italian courtyards, and architectural structures and museums from different eras of the past. Furthermore, Tbilisi is known for several culturally anticipated events and the festivals taking place throughout the year such as Tbilisoba, Tbilisi Open Air, Art-Gene, etc. 

 

In Kakheti, the visitors are greeted with historical monuments, wineries,  national parks & nature reserves and the churches from the middle ages. To accommodate for the touristic attractions in the region, there are luxury resorts and hotels located mainly in the municipalities of Telavi, Gurjaani, and Sighnaghi.

 

Adjara is one of the most favorite destinations of tourists, especially its capital city Batumi which is located at the coast of Black Sea. In Adjara, there are an abundance of stone age sites, ancient monuments (Gonio Castle & Tikhilvani Menhir) and medieval temples, fortresses and bridges, which witnessed many interesting events and history at different times. There are 4 protected areas in Adjara and each one is characterized by individual character and endemic varieties. Adjara is also rich in seaside and mountain resorts.

Mtskheta-Mtianeti is rich in cultural monuments from numerous eras as well as breathtaking natural beauty. Pre-Christian villages, dwellings in ravines, castles, and temples of exceptional artistic significance can be found here. Valleys, sparkling lakes, waterfalls, mineral waters, huge plains, and summits give immense pleasure and adventure to those who enjoy adventurous and roaming travel.

South Georgia

Southern Georgia, is a significant and diversified portion of the country, with a distinct blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. There are various historical landmarks and ancient sites in the area. The Rabati Castle in Akhaltsikhe, which combines Georgian, Ottoman, and Persian architecture, is one of the most noteworthy sights, as is the Vardzia cave monastery, an old rock-cut complex with historical and religious significance. Because of its natural thermal springs, Southern Georgia is a popular destination for health and wellness tourism. In addition, the region provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in local traditions, folk music, and dance. The region's ethnic mix results in a rich cultural tapestry that can be experienced through festivals, crafts, and regional cuisine.

North Georgia

Northern Georgia is rich in cultural legacy and traditions since it is home to a variety of Georgian sub-ethnic groups such as Svans, Ratchans, Mtiuletians, Tushs, and Khevsurs, each with their own customs, languages, and music. Furthermore, the region has a rich and illustrious history. For ages, it has served as a crucial junction for trade, commerce, and invasions, resulting in several historical landmarks, fortifications, and churches that stand witness to the region's history. Northern Georgia's natural splendor is magnificent. The region is distinguished by its clean high-altitude lakes and beautiful glacier-covered peaks of the Greater Caucasus mountain ridge, which contains some of Europe's tallest summits.

East Georgia

Kakheti, one of Georgia's largest provinces, is known as the "Wine Region" of the country.  It has a long winemaking tradition that dates back thousands of years. The region is recognized for its innovative winemaking techniques, such as qvevri winemaking, which includes fermenting and maturing wine in enormous clay jars buried underground. Kakheti has many vineyards and wineries where visitors can sample traditional Georgian wines and learn about the winemaking process. Sighnaghi, often known as the "City of Love," is a lovely village with cobblestone lanes, colorful buildings, and well-preserved ancient walls. The town has stunning views of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Mountains. The cuisine of Kakheti is an important part of Georgian culinary heritage. Visitors can savor meals like "churchkhela" (candle-shaped sweets made from almonds and grape must) and "chakapuli" (a traditional lamb and herb stew).

West Georgia

Western Georgia is endowed with a magnificent Black Sea shoreline. Adjara, in particular, is well-known for its stunning beaches, making it a favorite destination for beachgoers and watersports aficionados. Batumi, the capital of Adjara, is a bustling coastal city with a mix of modern and old buildings. Western Georgia, like the rest of the country, has a delicious selection of Georgian food. Regional delicacies include "acharuli khachapuri" (cheese-filled bread with an egg on top) and "sinori" (a classic Gurian meal made with cheese and dough).
